Here in the South, we LOVE our cocktails. Every Friday we like to share a new Southern Traditional, Southern-Created or Southern-Inspired Cocktail Recipe that we know you will enjoy.
Today’s Southern Cocktail is Gumby Slumber – Named for the walk you will do headed for a hammock to sleep it off.
Southern Cocktail #4 is Gumby Slumber Cocktail
Do you remember Gumby?
Gumby is a flat, green clay figure that first appeared in 1955 on the Howdy Doody TV show and has gone on to star in two TV series of his own as well as a full-length movie. Gumby, along with his sidekick, Pokey, a talking orange pony, has adventures through different environments and times in history.
Gumby, being green, flat and made of clay, had a very loose, exaggerated way of moving. That’s where the name of this drink, Gumby Slumber Cocktail, comes from. It’s potency sneaks up on you – so that by the time you finish one or two and get up from the bar stool, you also have a very loose, exaggerated way of moving as you make your way back to your room or a handy hammock to slumber away the afternoon.
One other thing – Gumby merchandise was quite popular in the late 1960’s. My brother and I both had Gumby and Pokey figures. Did you? Tell us below.
