Here in the South, we LOVE our cocktails. Every Friday we like to share a new Southern Traditional, Southern-Created or Southern-Inspired Cocktail Recipe that we know you will enjoy.
Today’s Southern Cocktail is a Classic Cocktail that highlights Brandy, Vermouth and Absinthe.
The Bombay Cocktail (No. 2)
The Bombay Cocktail (No. 2) comes from Harry Craddock’s seminal work, the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book.
The Bombay Cocktail (No. 2) is best enjoyed in small doses and super-cold. That better highlights the brandy and the anise taste of the absinthe. This is the original recipe. Many modern recipes go even further and tone down the vermouth, giving the drink a more brandy and anise-forward taste.
The Bombay Cocktail (No. 2) was invented by a New Yorker living in Paris. What makes it a Southern Cocktail? Well, I am stretching the definition a bit – but I found the recipe below on the Copper and Kings website. Copper and Kings is a Brandy Distiller located in Louisville, KY. That, and the fact that the cocktail is really good and deserves to be better-known are good enough reasons for me.
