Today’s Southern Cocktail is a super-sweet sipper with just the right amount of strong and sour to keep it interesting.
Southern Cocktail #16 is The Equator Cocktail
The Equator Cocktail comes from a book I am having a LOT of fun with, Bourbon & Bacon: The Ultimate Guide to the South’s Favorite Foods. Here in Kentucky these are not just 2 of our favorite foods, they are ways of life.

As for The Equator Cocktail — it is similar to a Whiskey Sour or a Stone Sour. The combination of sweet, sour and strong is perfect for sipping slowly on cold winter nights sitting by the fire watching college basketball.
And it goes without saying — but we will say it anyway — The Equator Cocktail pairs perfectly with any recipe that includes BACON.

The Equator Cocktail Recipe
Materials
- 1 1/2 ounces Bourbon
- 1 ounce Agave Nectar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons freshly squeezed Lemon Juice
- 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier Orange Liqueur
- Lemon Peel Twist to garnish
Instructions
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Add all ingredients, except garnish.
- Cover and shake until chilled.
- Strain into a chilled martini glass.
- Garnish with lemon peel twist.
